Expertise
“When I worked in the Zuidas business district, I realised what I was missing: direct contact with the entrepreneurs themselves. At Köster, I have those contacts.”
Lucia Kunst-van Leeuwen has been a lawyer since 2011, specialising in procedural law and intellectual property (IP) law. Lucia is broadly educated and worked at various large companies, including a bank, during her studies. When she started her studies, she wanted to become a judge, but when she had to defend a note she had written herself before Ybo Buruma, now a Supreme Court judge, it became clear that she was cut out for the legal profession: convincing and sharp-tongued.
After graduating, Lucia wanted to join a firm where she would receive excellent training and be able to work for prestigious clients. In 2011, she started as a lawyer at Köster. Five years later, Lucia was given the opportunity to focus on international IP and specialise at DLA Piper, where she formed part of the Intellectual Property & Technology department. With this experience under her belt, she returned to Köster in 2018.
Lucia completed the Grotius specialisation course in Domestic and International Contracting cum laude in 2016. She is a member of the Copyright Association and the Intellectual Property Association (the Dutch AIPPI). Throughout her studies, she was closely involved with the Young Bar Association of Noord-Holland, also as a board member.
In addition to her work, Lucia enjoys sports. She particularly enjoys training with a blind runner as a buddy at the Running Blind Foundation. Lucia is also a member of Ladies’ Circle 23 (the Cogge Rondte, West Friesland region), a service club for women dedicated to various charitable causes.
