Matthijs Ariëns

As an experienced litigation lawyer, Matthijs Ariëns knows better than anyone how to make optimal use of all the tools at his disposal: because litigation is a profession in its own right. It offers a toolbox full of possibilities that can make the difference between winning and losing.

Matthijs specialises in resolving conflicts and conducting proceedings in and around companies. They mainly relate to forms of collaboration, contracts (such as agency and distribution agreements, partnership agreements and contracts for services), directors’ liability, and wrongful acts.

With his strong sense of justice and natural drive to win, procedural law is a perfect fit for Matthijs. His strong analytical skills enable him to quickly get to the heart of the matter and clearly assess the opportunities and impossibilities in a case.

Matthijs completed his postgraduate specialisation in employment law cum laude in 2007. Matthijs is a university lecturer in civil procedural law and insolvency law at VU University Amsterdam, and in directors’ and officers’ liability at various other postgraduate educational institutions. In April 2023, he was voted the best litigation lawyer in the Netherlands. This election has been organised by the Association of Debt Collection and Litigation Lawyers (VIA) since 2018.
