Guusje Smulders

Guusje has been working at Köster Advocaten since the end of 2024, where she focuses on procedural law and intellectual property law. She laid the legal foundation for her career in Utrecht, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Law. She then specialised with a master’s degree in Internet, ICT and Intellectual Property at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She wrote her thesis on freedom of the press on LinkedIn, in light of the Digital Services Act and the Media Freedom Act. This topic is particularly relevant given the growing influence of digital platforms on freedom of expression and the regulation of online content.

Guusje completed several traineeships during her studies, in which her interest in procedural law and intellectual property grew. What attracts her to procedural law is the combination of strategic insight and the search for practical solutions. The protection of creativity and originality is at the heart of her affinity with intellectual property law.
