Dispute resolution Corporate law
“Governance disputes are ultimately about people: about trust that has been broken, or relationships that have reached an impasse. The best litigation strategy therefore does not begin with the proceedings themselves, but with the question: what does my client truly need in this situation?”
Anita van Wees is a lawyer specialising in corporate dispute resolution, with a particular focus on shareholder disputes and corporate governance matters. She advises and represents directors, shareholders and companies in the matters that truly matter: complex shareholder disputes, corporate governance issues and commercial litigation, both domestic and international.
Her background as clerk to the Enterprise Chamber of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal, where she worked for ten years, gives Anita a distinctive perspective on inquiry proceedings and governance disputes — not only as counsel, but also from within the court itself. She draws directly on this experience when advising clients on litigation strategy. Her involvement with the Enterprise Chamber ecosystem continued after her departure: from 2018 to 2023, she served on the board of Rimari, the association representing the interests of court-appointed officers of the Enterprise Chamber.
Anita further developed her litigation practice at two specialised disputes firms. At bureau Brandeis, she worked for more than eight years as Senior Associate Corporate and Commercial Litigation, handling complex corporate and commercial disputes — including public interest collective actions such as the world’s first successful greenwashing case against an airline. She subsequently joined Rubicon Impact & Litigation as Head of Governance Disputes, where she focused on complex governance-related disputes.
With her sharp analytical skills and extensive litigation experience, Anita is a strategic sparring partner for her clients. She combines legal depth with a pragmatic approach and has a keen understanding of both the legal and governance dynamics within companies.
Anita believes it is important that legal knowledge is shared and continuously developed. As coordinating editor of COBE, contributor to Kluwer’s Groene Serie Rechtspersonen and lecturer at the Dutch Bar Association’s professional training institute (SRA), she actively contributes to the accessibility and further development of Dutch corporate law.
