Expertise
“My role as a cassation lawyer also extends to the phase in which an appeal to the Supreme Court is not yet on the cards; I regularly consult with lawyers at an early stage of proceedings.”
Johan den Hoed has specialised in litigating before the Supreme Court for more than ten years. His love for this profession arose at the Research Department of the Supreme Court, where he handled a wide variety of cases. Among the broad spectrum of legal areas in which he assists his clients, he has a preference for liability law.
As a lawyer, Johan has been involved in a number of high-profile cassation proceedings. A successful appeal in cassation requires not only a sophisticated approach, but also a thorough understanding of court rulings. Johan finds that his work experience within the judiciary is of great importance in this regard. It has enabled him to gain a great deal of knowledge about how the District Court and the Court of Appeal arrive at their decisions:
“I still benefit on a daily basis from this unique combination of work experience.”
After studying Dutch law, Johan den Hoed gained broad experience as a research assistant/assistant judge at the Supreme Court and as a senior cassation lawyer at BarentsKrans. He writes columns for the legal journal Mr. and is a member of various associations, such as the Association of Civil Cassation Lawyers (VCCA), the Dutch Lawyers Association (NJV), the Association for Liability and Compensation Law (VAS) and the Dutch Association for Procedural Law (NVvP). Bach cantatas can always be heard playing in his office.
Johan is a deputy judge at the Court of Appeal of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. He’s also a columnist for the Mr. journal and editor of the Groene Serie Kluwer (on joint and several liability and the formation of agreements).
